Esta señal pertenece a la categoría regulatorias.
Esta señal se utiliza para indicar la prohibición de efectuar la maniobra de rebasamiento en vía con un solo carril de circulación en cada sentido. En vías pavimentadas, se debe complementar con la respectiva señalización horizontal.
Siempre se debe colocar esta señal a ambos lados de la vía, ya que los conductores que deseen efectuar dicha maniobra dirigen una visión hacia la izquierda buscando la oportunidad de realizarla.
